SEEN - A PORTRAIT PROJECT

A Portrait Project by Angelique Portrait Photography

A portrait project — studio sessions and filmed conversation — Edinburgh and the Lothians

What is Seen?

Seen is a photography project.

Each participant is professionally photographed across two studio sessions: a personal portrait session and an elegant boudoir session. Alongside the photography, I film a short personal conversation with each participant — not about what happened to them, but about who they are today and what they know now. That conversation becomes part of how their portraits are presented on this website.

I am looking for three women from Edinburgh and the Lothians to take part. I am a portrait photographer based in Tranent, East Lothian, working exclusively with women across Edinburgh, Midlothian, and East Lothian.

As a portrait photographer, I spend a great deal of time with women from all walks of life. What I have come to notice is that the women who have lived the most — who have built things, changed direction, raised families, navigated difficulty, or arrived at a point of genuine self-knowledge — are often the least well-photographed.

This is a photography project first and foremost

I am a portrait photographer. My work is to capture a woman as she is right now — directed, not manufactured. Every pose, every frame, every decision in the studio is made to bring out what is already there. Not to construct something that does not exist. The filmed conversation is part of that process — it is how I understand who is in front of my camera before I photograph her. I am not a therapist or psychologist. I do not treat or advise. What I do is create portraits that reflect a woman's transition — where she has been and who she has become — with the precision that only comes from knowing who she actually is.

What the project involves:

Portrait session

A fully directed studio portrait session at my private studio in Tranent, East Lothian. Wardrobe guidance provided in advance. Every pose directed by me throughout. No experience required.

Boudoir session

An elegant, tasteful boudoir session in the same private studio. Handled with complete professionalism and discretion. This is portraiture — not performance. Your comfort level is established before the session and respected throughout.

A filmed personal conversation

A short conversation filmed separately from the photography sessions — fully clothed, relaxed, on your terms. Not an interview. Not a confession. A conversation about the woman you are today. Reviewed and approved by you before anything is published.

Your images

A set of professionally retouched images from both sessions, delivered to you digitally.

Who this is for:

Women who are at a point in life where they know themselves well — and who want professional portraits that reflect that clearly.

You do not need an extraordinary story. You need to be someone with a perspective and someone who is ready to be photographed properly.

Practical requirements:

— Based in Edinburgh and the Lothians
— 21 years of age or older
— Available for two studio sessions and a short, separate filmed conversation
— Comfortable with portrait and boudoir photography in a private, one-to-one setting
— Willing to sign a model release covering the use of images and filmed content on this website and in a professional photography portfolio and marketing

Your Privacy

Your session is private. One photographer, one client, no assistants, no observers.

Your boudoir images are yours to control. Before your boudoir session, you confirm in writing whether your face may appear in publicly shared images. That choice does not change after the fact.

Your filmed conversation is approved by you. You review what is published before it goes live. Nothing is quoted out of context and nothing is published without your explicit approval.

Your personal details remain private. Only your first name appears alongside your portraits. Your contact details, full name, and address are never published.

About this project

I created Seen because the women I most want to photograph are rarely the ones who book portrait sessions.

They are the women who have been too busy building something, raising someone, or navigating something difficult to make space for being photographed properly. By the time they think about it, they have convinced themselves it is too late, too indulgent, or not for someone like them.

It is not too late. This project is specifically for them.

I am Angelika. I am a portrait photographer. I run a private studio in Tranent, East Lothian, working exclusively with women. The image on this page is of me, because I built this project and I wanted to begin it with honesty about who is behind the camera.

How to get involved:

Three spaces are available. If this project sounds like something you would like to be part of, get in touch directly.

Send a message and tell me a little about yourself — who you are, where you are in life, and why this feels like the right time.

There is no formal application. There is no obligation. It is a conversation.
