Who this project is for

There is no body type, age, or background this project is designed for or against. The only requirement is that you have a story — and that you are ready to tell it.

This project is for you if

You are aged 21 or over and based in Midlothian or East Lothian
You have navigated something significant — divorce, illness, career change, a decade milestone, personal reinvention — and come through it
You have never had professional photographs taken of yourself, or your last session left you disappointed
You want images that are honestly and accurately you — not an edited or idealised version
You are comfortable with your images and story being used for professional marketing purposes
You can commit to both a portrait and boudoir session, and a filmed personal interview

This project is not for you if

You are not able or willing to sign a model release covering public use of images and video
You require that all boudoir images remain entirely private — Tier 2 anonymous publication is the minimum consent required
You are under 21 years of age
You are based outside of Midlothian or East Lothian
You are looking for a free session without the project obligations — this is a genuine creative exchange, not a giveaway

What you receive

Everything included — nothing withheld.

Every participant receives the same experience regardless of which story they bring. Here is exactly what is included:

Portrait session— 5 professionally retouched digital images.

Boudoir session — 5 professionally retouched digital images.

Pre-session consultation — wardrobe, brief, and expectations.

Full posing and wardrobe direction throughout both sessions.

Private viewing appointment — images selected before retouching begins.

Filmed personal interview — Part A (before) and Part B (after images)

Named feature on the Seen project pages of this website

Total — 10 professionally retouched digital images - value £495

Your cost - £0

Images are delivered digitally within four weeks of your final session. Your portrait images are yours to use personally. Your boudoir images are yours privately — and may be published by Angelique Portrait Photography in accordance with your consent tier selection, as detailed in the model release agreement.

Participation requirements

What is expected of you.

This is a creative exchange with clear obligations on both sides. The following are non-negotiable conditions of participation. Please read them before applying.

Hair & Makeup

You must arrive with professional hair and makeup completed to a camera-ready standard. This is not included in the project and is your responsibility to arrange and pay for before the session day. Referrals to trusted local artists are available on request.

Wardrobe

Wardrobe guidance is provided at your pre-session consultation. You are responsible for sourcing your own wardrobe and must bring a minimum of three outfit options to each session. Specific guidance on what works under studio lighting will be sent in advance.

Interview Participation

Two filmed interviews are required — Part A before your photography sessions, and Part B after you have received your finished images. Each interview is a conversation of approximately 15–20 minutes. You will review and approve your story summary before it is published.

Nails

Hands and feet feature prominently in boudoir photography. Nails — both manicure and pedicure — must be clean, well-maintained, and camera-ready. It is your responsibility to arrange this before your session.

Model Release

You must sign the Model and Content Release Agreement before your first session begins. This covers public use of images and video across all marketing channels. No session proceeds without a signed release. The full agreement is available to review before you commit.

Age & Location

Participants must be 21 years of age or older. The project is open to women based in Midlothian and East Lothian only. Proof of age may be requested before a session proceeds.

Privacy & Boudoir Image Consent

Your privacy is handled in writing — not assumed.

Your boudoir images may be published with or without your face visible. This is your choice and is confirmed in writing in the model release agreement before any session takes place.

Tier 1 — Full publication: All boudoir images including face may be used across all channels.

Tier 2 — Anonymous publication: Boudoir images may be published provided your face is not identifiable. Sessions are photographed with this in mind.

Tier 2 is the minimum consent required for project participation. If you require that all boudoir images remain entirely private, this project is not the right fit — and that is completely understood.

How it works

The full process from your first message to your story being published on this website.

01.You apply

Complete the form below or send a direct message. Tell me a little about yourself and why this project feels right for you at this point in your life. I review every application personally and respond within 48 hours.

02. Selection & documents

If selected, you receive the full project information guide and model release agreement to review. A pre-session consultation is scheduled — by phone or video — where we discuss wardrobe, your story, and what to expect.

03. Part A interview

Before any photography takes place, we film a short personal interview — approximately 15–20 minutes. You have received the themes in advance. This captures who you are and what you have navigated before the session.

04. Portrait & boudoir sessions

Two separate studio sessions at my private studio in Tranent — a personal portrait session and a boudoir session. Both are fully directed. You are guided through every pose, every setup. No experience required.

05. Image viewing & delivery

A private viewing appointment where you select your images before retouching begins. Your 10 finished images are delivered digitally within four weeks of your final session.

06. Part B interview

One to two days after you have received your images, we film the second interview — your reaction, what changed, what you would say to another woman. You approve the edited story before publication.

07. Your story is published

Your portrait images, boudoir images, and filmed interview are published together as a standalone feature on the Seen project pages of this website. Your story — in your own words, with your approval.

Why I created this project.

I am Angelika, a photographer and owner of Angelique Portrait Photography in Tranent, East Lothian.

SEEN began with a simple observation.

Many women spend years putting everyone else first. They raise families, support partners, build careers, start businesses, care for relatives, navigate loss, face setbacks, adapt to change, and keep moving forward through challenges that often go unseen by others.

Along the way, they gain something valuable: experience, perspective, resilience, and wisdom.

Yet these stories are rarely shared.

SEEN is a personal portrait project created to give women a platform to tell those stories in their own words.

This is not a project about hardship for the sake of hardship. It is not therapy, research, or journalism.

It is about reflection.

Every woman featured in SEEN has lived through experiences that shaped who she is today. For some, that may be overcoming illness, loss, or major life changes. For others, it may be returning to work after years of motherhood, building a business from nothing, changing careers later in life, finding confidence after self-doubt, or making a difficult decision that ultimately changed the course of their future.

The challenges themselves are different.

The lessons they teach us are often universal.

Through filmed conversations and portrait photography, SEEN captures not only who these women are today, but also the insight they have gained along the way.

My hope is that someone reading these stories will recognise a part of herself within them, find encouragement, or discover the confidence to take her own next step.

The portrait is only the beginning.

The story is what matters.
